Chicken Gyros and Tzatziki Sauce Recipe

Garlicky, oregano-laced,  chicken strips are piled on a pita, sauced with a classic yogurt Tzatziki, and garnished with chopped fresh veggies. I been putting off making pitas for a long time. Finally I decided to make em and these were a hit at my house. Kids really loved it! This Tzatziki Sauce is so good, I been adding it to my salads now. These are so easy to make. If you never made gyros, this is the time to make em.

     For pitas you will need:
3 Pita breads
3 leafs of  Romaine lettuce
1 Tomato cubed
1/2 Sweet vidalia onion, thinly sliced
Cilantro {optional}
Tzatziki sauce {recipe included}

     Chicken recipe:
1 1/2 cup grilled chicken breasts strips
2 tsp garlic, minced
1 tsp oregano {dried}
1/4 tsp ground cumin
1/3 tsp ground coriander
2 tsp butter for saute

     Tzatziki Sauce:
1 cup cucumber, finely chopped
1/2 cup greek yogurt
1/3 cup sour cream
2 tsp lemon juice
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp fresh minced dill
1/4 teaspoon salt

I used Costco pita bread.
To make the sauce: Peel cucumbers and mince em.

Mix all of the ingredients together and let sit for at least 30 min to hour before using
To make chicken: Melt butter in the skillet. Add chicken and heat it up.
Add minced garlic.
Add oregano, cumin and coriander. Saute for 2 min.
Slice onion and cube the tomatoes.
Warm up 3 pita breads. Layer with the lettuce, chicken, tomato, red onion and tzatziki sauce.
Wrap it in foil or a paper towel.

  3. Lovely work, Lea! Would you be happy to link it in to the current Food on Friday which is all about sauces? This is the link . I do hope to see you there. There are already quite a lot of links for you to check out. Cheers

    1. So glad you came on over Lea. I have signed up to follow you. Hope to see you again soon. Cheers

    2. That's great! I love linky parties:)))

  5. SO amazing. Just made this for dinner and it's a huge hit--I'm adding it to our recipe book! Thanks for posting :)

    1. You're welcome:) I am glad you loved it:)))

  6. I love gyros but the meat always looks questionable to me. I'm glad I can make one myself :) It looks delicious!

  7. Can't wait to make these today, to eat out by the pool! Love gyros but never knew what the sauce, being the best part, was made with. Thanks so much for sharing!!

  8. These look good. Problem I have is the link for the 'printer friendly' page. I printed it and its 7 pages long. How 'printer friendly' is that? Usually printer friendly is the shortened version of a recipe... at least I thought so..

    1. Hi, the way printer option works is when you push a print button then you move your mouse over any picture or words it gives you option to delete that section. So you can choose what pictures you want to keep. Hope this helped:)))
