Chicory is a popular coffee substitute and economizer for 2 centuries, back when coffee was more prized, and pure coffee was a luxury. In that time, it became a matter of cultural preference to use chicory in coffee. I try to cut out my coffee intake, and I love creamy hot drinks. This is my favorite coffee substitute.
Use 1/2 tsp of chicory for 12 oz of boiled water
Or 2-3 tbs of Pero
Use your favorite creamer: sweetened condensed, half half ets.
This chicory I buy at the Russian store. This one is my favorite, it has that bitter taste like coffee.
Sometimes I buy Pero at Fred Meyer or Winco.
