I decided to make a potato pie with my pastry puff that I had in my fridge. It turned out really well. Flaky on the outside, soft meat potato inside, perfect combination. If you a potato fan, this would be great pie to make for your family:)
Ingredients for 2, 9 inch pies:
5-6 potatoes
1 large onion
1 lbs minced beef
6 tbs butter
1 1/2 tsp Sea salt
1 tsp smoked paprika
1/4 tsp pepper
1 egg for brushing the top.
1/3 Puff Pastry dough Recipe
Preheat oven to 375F. Whisk the egg.
Mince beef.
Peel and slice potatoes thinly.
Peel and slice onion into small strips. Add to the bowl.
Pour melted butter over the potato mixture.
Add salt.
Add paprika.
Mix well.
Dust the table with flour. Take dough out of the fridge and roll into a circle.
Put the rolled dough in the baking pie dish.
Fill with potato mixture. I added more butter pieces on top.
Roll another circle of dough and decorate it. I used a small leaf cutter for mine.
Cover the pie and braid the ends together. Brush with the egg. Bake on 375F for 20 min then on 350 for 25-30 min.

Lea, you're pie is gorgeous. I love the thought that it's a savory pie (and yes, I adore potatoes), but that top crust would do just as perfectly for apple or pear pie. Wow, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love this dough recipe it' really versatile. It works for sweet and savory pastry.

Quite close to a typical British Meat and Potato Pie
ReplyDeleteNeeds some peas and gravy to go with it though
We usually make this pie with pizza dough. I decided to try with pastry dough and it was a hit at my house:)
